About Humberside International Airport

Humberside International Airport is located 10 miles west of Grimsby and 15 miles south of Kingston upon Hull, near the village of Kirmington. In 2006, Humberside International Airport handled 516,000 passengers making it one of the UK’s smaller international airports.

Parking at the Airport

There are two parking options at Humberside International Airport. Short Stay and Long Stay.
The Short Stay car park (Car Park 1) is directly opposite the terminal. It is recommended for parking of 24 hours or less. There is a drop-off zone for departing passengers and their luggage outside the terminal. However, passengers being met from arriving flights should be collected from the short stay car park where the first 15 minutes of parking is free of charge. The car park has dedicated disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders for any duration of stay. To ensure you are charged the appropriate rate for your stay, please take your car park ticket to the information desk to pay.
There are three long stay car parks at the airport and they are suitable for stays of two or more days. All the long stay car parks are just a short walk from the terminal and can all be pre-booked for savings of up to 10% on the normal gate prices.

Facilities and Services

Humberside International Airport has services to 29 international scheduled and charter destinations. The passenger terminal’s facilities include airport information; Business Lounge; car hire; Chaplaincy; currency exchange; WiFi Internet access and facilities for passengers requiring special assistance.
The terminal building also offers a small range of shopping and refreshment outlets.
Humberside International Airport’s executive lounge is open to all departing passengers for a small fee. The lounge offers a range of exclusive benefits including complimentary drinks and snacks, newspapers and magazines. The lounge has flatscreen televisions, fax, Internet access, writing desks and telephones.

Getting To The Airport

By road - Humberside International Airport is located off the A18, just three miles from Junction 5 of the M180. The airport has excellent road connections with the M18, M62, M1 and A1 as well as the Humber Bridge.
By rail - Barnetby rail station is just three miles away from the airport. It has intercity connections via Doncaster to all mainline stations.
By bus/coach - The Stagecoach X1 'Humber Flyer' service operates between Hull, the airport, and Grimsby.

History of Humberside International Airport

In 1941 Humberside Airport, formally known as Kirmington, began life as an RAF base. The base was abandoned after the war and the area was used as farmland until it was put back into use as an airfield for small operators in 1960. The local council purchased the site in 1969 with plans to turn the site into a civil passenger airport.

In 1974 the passenger terminal was completed, and under the new name of Kirmington, the airport was opened to the public. Shortly after this the county was renamed Humberside and so the airport adopted the name of its new county and became Humberside Airport. By 1984 the airport’s annual passenger figures had reached 100,000. The airport became a Private Limited Company wholly owned by Humberside County Council in 1986.

In 1990 an extension to the main runway to a length of 2200 metres was approved and took two years to complete. Other refurbishments that took place in 1996 included a new passenger terminal, new passenger lounges and check in facilities. Due to changes in local government structure the airport’s ownership was transferred to North Lincolnshire Council. In 1999 Manchester Airport Plc purchased a major share in the airport with North Lincolnshire Council retaining a 17.3% share.
